On the 18th March we made the difficult decision to postpone our courses until further notice. The safety of our team, Orbiteers, chapter managers and mentoring teams is of the upmost importance to us and thus it was decided that the postponement of our operations was in the interest of all concerned.
This article will provide guidelines on when Orbit’s chapters will reopen and it will outline the steps we are taking to mitigate the health risks caused by Covid-19.
Our decision to reopen Orbit’s chapters will be made in accordance to government guidelines. As a result, some chapters will reopen ahead of others due to the difference in government guidelines from country to country. At the time of writing, we believe that all of our chapters will have reopened by September 2020.
Despite our chapters reopening this year it’s unlikely that our courses will be running at full capacity until March 2021. The government’s decision to close schools has had an adverse impact on our operations: 90% of orbiteers that participate in our business incubator course have been recruited from schools and colleges, and the closure of these institutions for a prolonged period have eliminated any chance we had to recruit new Orbiteers to join our chapters.
We are planning to introduce ‘Orbit Gateway’; a fully digital proposition that will allow Orbit’s business incubator course to be delivered over the internet. The online platform will allow orbiteers to book mentoring sessions, access online courses and workshops, and compete for awards as they would during the business incubator course. Orbiteers will be given an account on Orbit Gateway when it’s launched and new Orbiteers can join the Gateway course at any time.
Orbiteers that haven’t been able to participate in the business incubator course due to the Covid-19 pandemic will be allowed to rejoin the course when their chapter reopens at no extra cost.
We will continue to provide email updates on the steps we are taking to mitigate the risks posed by Covid-19.
